Preface to this article: Since publishing this article I have been accused of agreeing with Mark Regenerus’ conclusions because I did not repudiate all the data in the New Family Structures Study which is the subject of the article. I do not agree with his conclusions. Also I have been accused of looking to find fault in the study where none exists from anti gay people. I therefore feel the need to state even more clearly what I think about this study. I believe that the study raises valid questions that deserve consideration however the study is very inconclusive as to proving whether a committed gay couple can or cannot raise a child. Anyone who wishes to use it to prove that gay couples are unable to raise well-adjusted kids, needs to realize that much of the same-sex data in the study concerns households where there was family instability, trauma from breakup and extra marital affairs. Also the study is totally counter to most other studies on the same subject which immediately calls Professor Mark Regenerus’ conclusions into question.
Because the data set is larger than other studies, weighted with many factors well organized, and due to the fact that after careful review the University of Austin validated the science I am not prepared to invalidate the study simply because it doesn’t conform to PC norms. I can even see where some of the data may be helpful in same-sex parenting for instance in helping to define the role of the donor or surrogate in child rearing. I do however believe that the data is limited, and needs to include more variables and does not take into consideration enough factors concerning stable gay relationships influences on children. More research must be done about committed stable gay relationships.
Quantum POP will publish more articles concerning studies on childhood development as they appear, including same-sex parenting. I hope to see more studies on all types of stable family units raising children. I personally believe that when more data is gathered from more research we will find that the childhood development that leads to the greatest social adjustment and happiness will be a childhood featuring a stable family core with a foundation where role model diversity is positive, wide and accessible. I personally believe that all things being equal, a stable same-sex family unit, which includes more diverse influences of role models, hetro, gay, male, female as well as racial, economic and other factors etc are likely to produce better results than a comparable opposite-sex stable family with limited positive diverse role model influences and visa-versa.
But do I know this for sure? No I do not. What I do know is that rejecting data out of hand only because it is not what I want to believe, will not increase my understanding. I also know a good parent of any kind is always better than a bad one. Also, if we are trying to raise children into loving, caring, tolerant adults then immediately thinking the worst and hating people who have questions and/or lifestyles that threaten our sense of self, may not be good role modeling anyway.

Once again, scientific data is dragged through the mud of social advocacy and prejudice.
Professor Mark Regnerus’ “New Families Structure Study” does nothing more than confirm what most people instinctively know. Namely that access to and a lack of intimate non sexual (meaning directed at the child) proximity to both sexes during childhood affects overall development as an adult.This should not be controversial on the face of it. Unfortunately the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Lesbian (GLBT) advocates of gay child rearing, act as if they wish us to believe otherwise. The differences between the two sexes and the obvious benefit of having as much constructive intimate childhood exposure to both should be as obvious to GLBT, as the fact that homosexuality is a vital part of nature from plants and animals to the human experience should be to everyone in general. If anyone wishes to understand more of the scientific documented differences and current studies concerning the difference between the sexes, then go to this site which does nothing but publish studies of the sexes and have your eyes opened.
http://www.bsd-journal.com/ .
The current news making article last week, published by this site involves the difference between how human male and female eyes see.
Then there is the anti gay crowd who wish to ignore previous studies and lump all their assumptions about the dangers of homosexuality into this study and say it proves something that it does not. Namely that gays aren’t as good at parenting as opposite sex couples. If you are one of those that think that homosexuality is unatural and you are suffering from homosexual atheism check out;

When both side have finished their assignments then I thank you. Pleasel meet back here and continue reading this article.
The controversy always arises when statistics seem to challenge attempts by one group or another to assign a sociological advantage to differences that occur commonly in nature. Such a set of stats was recently arrived at by the New Families Structure Study. To read this controversial study, please do yourself an educational favor and go to;

Quantum POP has concluded that the study may be helpful in decisions for children who are the victims of family structure dissolution. It is not at all conclusive as to the benefits of stable same-sex parent relationships within a personal social network structure. We would define a personal social structure network, as one where the child has some degree of intimate, non sexual access, to adult family and friends for role modeling, according to the parents values and perception of the child’s needs.
The study deals with adults age 18 to 39 who experienced any kind of child rearing outside of the Intact Biological Family (IBF)) model and compares their answers to questions with the answers from participants who grew up in the IBF. Most of the participants who grew up outside of the IBF in this study were victims of family dissolution. They experienced divorce, or extramarital affairs, and other traumatic events which resulted in the breakup of the IBF. But there were some who were not affected so much by the events that led to their non IBF experience, as they occurred before the age of 3. all these were then lumped together and sorted.
So the categories are
| IBF (intact bio family) | GF (gay father) | Adopted by strangers | Divorced late (>18) | Stepfamily | Single-parent | All other |
|---|
The study compares all the categories to each other and finds percentages of behavior that may not be healthy. For instance drinking to get drunk frequently mostly is not healthy. As you might expect the IBF raised adult has the least frequency in this. The most frequency is gay father raised adult children, however those raised by lesbian mother do much and are affected by this only a bit above IBF. It is important to understand that often in this study the gay father or mother did not live in the home after their homosexuality became an issue in the family unit. Therefore the problems experienced by the participants in this study, may have had less to do with their same sex relationship and more to do with the family dissolution itself.
Lesbian Mothers (LM) fare worse than all other non IBF categories in most of the statistics from the study. Frequency of arrest among adults raised by LM’s is one example of this. This appears to be a damning statistic and needs to be considered further without a doubt. So let us consider. Many police when confronted by someone who’s mannerisms and attitude is unfamiliar may ask a lot of questions.The LM’s childhood experience may lead them to equate the amount of questions and attitude of police with harassment due to anti gay attitudes experienced during childhood. They may then cop an attitude. Police do not like attitude and see it as a potential danger. A child from a stable IBF or otherwise stable family may exhibit characteristics more familiar to police. Though they may be just as guilty as LM raised person they may be let go without a search of records or property leading to less arrests.This study cannot consider this variable. Another missing variable in this stat is simply, seriousness of the crime. Are we talking murder, robbery extortion here or are these arrests more like, failure to appear for traffic citation, small amount of marijuana? This makes a big difference.
There are many other variables which we need to consider in these studies, which begs the need for more studies. Realizing that differences in nature are more often than not advantages. Quantum POP would like to see studies of planned families of different types, that remain intact until age 18. We would like to know what the advantages are of exposure to all types of constructive romantic behavior in a stable nurturing environment with regards to human childhood development. There are probably advantages to both homo and hetro influences in the development of happy productive people.The contributions to our culture by same-sex individuals is certainly well documented. The Gay inclusive culture and the contributions of the ancient Greeks and Romans have had a profound effect on our US System of Government.
What we need to do is avoid the paranoid obsession to move on thinking all of the facts on human sexuality already are known to our advantage because as this study indicates, there is much more to discover. It is time to enjoy this social discovery for the sake of the children. Flying on prejudice through a subject like human sexuality, is a little like flying over Yosemite valley and saying we know all about Yosemite. This one thing seems to hold true in life more often than not. Prejudice without science only creates problems. Science is still one of our best tools to solve problems. Unscientifically speaking, the consideration we place in childhood social development, will develop us as a species more than anything else. Children are the life we create for ourselves and leave for the future.

“People abandoned this type of battery in the 1970s because there were better batteries at the time,” says Hongjie Dai, a chemist at Stanford University. “We have made the Edison battery interesting again by drastically increasing the ability to charge and discharge it.”
