The Quantum  POP award for the biggest ship afloat at LA Boat Show, goes to the Carver 54 Voyager: Towering over all others in the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center was the 54 Voyager by Carver. It is is two stories of foating fun.

At 54 feet long, it is perfect for family and friends or great big ocean going parties for an elegant evening on the water. Despite its large size it maintains a smooth line and the newer models are beginning to boast even more Italian design features. This design features Italian influence in the roof line and windows that give it the streamlined look you see here.

The award for most elegant boat at the LA Boat Show. goes to the Carver Marquis 500 SC

We Take You Inside the Marquis

Want to enhance your lifestyle? Perhaps improve your health? The sexy Marquis 500 SC,  an American yacht with the elegance of Italian design is for you. It is powered by three volvo motors each coneccted to an IPS drive. IPS stands for inboard performance system. The engines drive 6 propellers mounted at the front of the yacht.  Three of them rotate clockwise, the other three counter clockwise for the ultimate in thrust. This system allows the 370hp engines, with the energy cosumption of 370hp engines, to perform like 500hp engines.

Front mounting of the propellers allow them to grab solid undisturbed water. No air bubbles. When propellers are mounted on the back the boat as it passes through the  water, the yacht can produce air bubbles in the water reducing thrust. The front mounting of the propellers is another reason the for the outstanding front wheel drive like, handling of the Marquis. It also contributes to the 500hp performance of the 375hp engine. The handling of the Marqis is further enhanced by a joystick, video style control in the captains area that handles forward, back, left, right maneuvers with ease.

The kitchen stove and is big enough to prepare large meals. The food prep area will work for big meals if you do a lot of food prep before you board. Big meals may come in handy when you sail with a sleeping capacity of 8.

Another great featrure of the Marquis is that the captain is not isolated from the passengers. The controls are right there in the main cabin and everyone can have a good time.

The main cabin also sports a very large moon roof. that opens up. All the windows open and close electronically and when you are safely docked, there is no elaborate time consumed, rigging and securing canvas covers etc. Simply lock the doors and go to dinner.

What a life

Larson and Hill; Boating with Made in America Innovation

Our first day at the L.A. Boat show demonstrated that innovation rules the waves and much of the innovation on display is still made in the USA. Our day kicked off with a a high flying performance by made in America, Oregon born stunt bike rider Jeremy Van Schoonhoven.

Nerve and skill on display by Jeremy Van Schoonhoven

Boat packing crates become sensational platforms of daring as Jeremy floats on air like a boat floats on water. Well maybe a little different. In this picture, riding his highly modified competition bike, Jeremy demonstrates how newer, lighter, stronger materials in the right hands make new thrills as well as new things.

Larson Boats LLC is dedicated to bringing the thrill of open water adventure to more and more people by using stronger lighter materials in its one of a kind patented VEC manufactuing process. Manufactured in Little Falls MN, this process, used on its 16 to 21 foot motor boats, allows the entire hull to be made from one piece of molded composite material.

What is so great about that?  Instead of being fabricated in stages which requires more time and labor this baby is pressed into shape in one fluid, mechanical motion. This allows for miniscule amounts of variable between each hull and less cost to you. Less waste of materials and as if that wasn’t enough, each hull is made to optimum specifications. And if that still isn’t enough. How bout this. Did you know that the dead rise on all the other comparable boats is 16 degrees. Well it’s true. Larson boats feature a 21 degree deadrise throughout the hull. Great for handling those pesky wakes on your bow and/or stern.

Also great for wakes that abound check out the pop up seat which is not available in any other boats at any price. Now how much would you pay? Just ask.

Now for something completely different.

Famous boat racer and inventor Ron Hill of Hill Marine, offers a state of the art, innovative, high performance, low tech solutoion to some very high tech needs. And he makes it out of, are you ready, good old stainless steel.

Used in boat racing all over the world it is a dual propeller system where the inner propeller rotates counter clockwise and the outer rotates clockwise. It will guaranteed  to get you there faster and with less drag and more propulsion per turn than any other propeller of its kind. How does he do it. Like any artist  Practice practice practice. During his racing years he was constantly dinging and bending the propellers on his craft after each race carefully bending and shaping each blade to get the most out of it. Eventually he decided to make his own and sell it to the masses. The process of development continues to this day as over the course of every year he takes his work to the water and continues the shaping process continually perfecting his process under real life open water conditions.
